NEW DELHI: Zivame , a popular intimate wear e-commerce platform for women that deals with the online sale of women’s clothing faced massive data breaches as 1.5 million Indian women customers’ personal information including names, e-mail, phone numbers, addresses, etc have been put on sale. The seller highlighted that the data was not publicly available, however, provided a sample dataset of over 1,500 users' names, residences, and contact information. The seller insisted on only getting payment in Bitcoin, which is standard practice in such situations. Moreover, according to a report, this data attack was carried out by the same organization that allegedly sold 7.1 million LinkedIn profile data and 1.21 million Rentomojo (furniture renting start-up) data in the past. Earlier this month, Uber' s former chief security officer was sentenced to probation for attempting to conceal a 2016 data breach in which hackers gained access to tens of millions of customer records. On the other hand, according to the US Attorney's Office, Joseph Sullivan was sentenced to three years of probation and required to pay a $50,000 fine. In April of this year, Samsung employees were chastised for inadvertently exposing confidential data. Within a 20-day period, the business allegedly witnessed three separate instances of employees dumping data. Engineers in the semiconductor division had been given permission to use ChatGPT to troubleshoot source code issues. According to the report, while communicating with the chatbot, employees inadvertently provided sensitive information, such as the source code for a new program. In one noteworthy case, an employee shared a recording of a corporate meeting containing critical information while attempting to turn it into notes. However, the information placed up for sale online includes the female clients of Zivame's name, email, phone number, and physical address. Notably, the material on this site is quite sensitive, given that the e-commerce site's principal product is lingerie for women.
