All indications are the seventh chapter in the popular action franchise will hit $250 million through the weekend. Friday’s global receipts should have no trouble besting Wednesday and Thursday’s individual domestic and international numbers, pushing the box office cume toward $120+ million by end of business today. Including China’s Friday receipts, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning has in fact topped $70+ million already, but that will obviously be factored into today’s numbers due to time zones. His presence can’t really be quantified when it comes to marketing his movies and getting the fanbase buzzing. Audience awareness for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is high, as it is generally for the franchise, and each of the previous three chapters improved upon its predecessor’s box office, critical reviews, and audience reception. That A-grade for Dead Reckoning is going to be a significant indicator of likely improvement at the box office, while critical reviews are just a fraction behind Fallout but could easily close the gap as more reviews roll out through the weekend. With or without a perfect streak of improvement with regard to those collective critical scores at Rotten Tomatoes, Mission Impossible’s success is certainly buoyed by great reviews, but a difference of 1% either way isn’t going to hurt it. It’s more an interesting indicator of how consistently the series has managed to maintain a high standard and benefited from critical and audience appreciation for that commitment. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is expected to break several franchise records, including the biggest domestic, international, and worldwide openings for the franchise so far. Which will almost certainly set up Dead Reckoning Part Two to once again set new records across all three categories next year when it arrives in theaters to complete the two-part grand finale of Cruise’s action-thriller blockbuster series... Then again, Cruise says he’d like to still be playing Ethan Hunt into his 80s, taking inspiration from Harrison Ford and his iconic role in the Indiana Jones film franchise.
