Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Some people, particularly those of a certain age, remember when one of the hazards of convertible ownership was the possibility of serious injury in the event of a crash, particularly a rollover. They were right. But not anymore. A study by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety indicates that despite the perceived danger of convertibles, they’re no more perilous in crashes than ordinary passenger vehicles. The institute analyzed the amount of driver fatalities and police-reported crashes per miles traveled for convertible and non-convertible vehicles during 2014-2018, examining such factors as whether the driver was ejected from the vehicle, whether or not they were impaired or if a seat belt was worn, all factors greatly associated with fatalities behind the wheel.
